I've held back from writing a bad review because it didn't seem that serious, but after my last visit, I feel the need to speak up. Every time I call, I’m unable to reach a store manager. I’ve lived in Montclair for years and have given this location multiple chances, but it consistently disappoints. The staff are rude, lazy, and disrespectful. On one visit, my order was messed up several times, and instead of fixing it, they kept throwing the bowls away, wasting food despite my requests to just make the necessary changes. I’ve also asked for small adjustments, like chopping the apples instead of serving them as wedges, and was told no with invalid excuses. This is frustrating, especially since another location had no issue accommodating me. Having worked at Playa Bowls myself, I understand the challenges of a young staff, but that doesn’t excuse their lack of social manners. The bases are often either frozen or overly soupy, and the fruit is rarely fresh, often poorly chopped with leaves still attached. I’d rather drive to a different location than continue to walk to this one. Done with this location.
The woman who made the drinks had a bad attitude. There were 4 smoothies so we asked her to identify each drink, she came off very abrupt. One drink was leaking and the cap wasn’t on correctly- She also didn’t hand us straws and got annoyed and rolled her eyes when we asked for straws. The gentleman who took our order was very polite however and the smoothies were fresh and tasted great.
i love playa bowls, they’re food is without a doubt amazing. They’re orders had screwups sometimes. They’re not stingy about returning a smoothie though. They are very pricy. I paid for a 16 ounce smoothie that was $8! A açaí bowl is $12 too!
The base was soupy and tasted strange. The bowl was sub par. I was really surprised and disappointed I couldn’t eat much of it. I had to throw it out. The staff needs to cut back on the conversation amongst themselves to perhaps focus more on the orders. Will still to the Florham Park location as they are both equally distanced from me. Good luck!
Use to appreciate going to this location but lately it’s very hit or miss. I usually order an açaí bowl sometimes i’ll get a decent bowl other times it can be very mediocre and thrown together. This morning I went around 7:58, I understand they open at 8am & I didn’t want to be irritating so I wait until 8 am exactly to try to nudge on the door, I see two employees inside who see me waiting. I wait a little longer til about 8:05. I understand that they’re probably still preparing things but it would have been nice to be given the communication of that being that it was cold outside and the option to wait inside would have been nice. Parking is already bad so to come here and get hit or miss service is somewhat disappointing
